Building the practical AI capability required for modern teaching, assessment and academic practice
Artificial intelligence is changing the way educational content is developed, assessments are designed, information is communicated and academic work is managed. Educators therefore require more than a general awareness of AI: they need the ability to apply AI tools critically, responsibly and practically while protecting educational quality, academic standards and the interests of learners and students.
The purpose of this course is to equip education professionals with applied knowledge and practical skills to use AI as a supportive professional tool. Participants will learn to improve planning, resource development, assessment preparation, feedback, academic communication and routine administrative work while retaining full professional responsibility for the accuracy, suitability and ethical use of every output.
AI does not replace the professional role of the educator. Its value depends on the educator’s ability to direct, evaluate, correct and apply its outputs with sound judgement.

Applicants must meet the following minimum admission requirements:
A recognised Higher Certificate in Education, or another relevant education-related qualification at NQF Level 5 or above;
An equivalent recognised qualification considered suitable for admission to the programme;
Current involvement in a school, college, university, training institution or other educational environment is recommended;
Basic digital literacy and the ability to access and participate in online learning; and
South African citizenship.

Build a clear foundation in AI, generative tools, prompting, verification and professional human oversight.
Introduction to artificial intelligence and generative AI

Ethical, Safe and Legally Informed AI Use in Education
Develop the judgement required to protect people, information, academic standards and institutional integrity.

MODULE 3
Practical Application of AI Across Schools and Tertiary Education
Apply AI to authentic teaching and academic tasks through focused explanations, demonstration videos and workplace activities.

Presentations, visual resources and inclusive differentiation
Assessments, quizzes, rubrics, memoranda and feedback
Academic and research support
Professional communication, administration and institutional planning
Develop practical AI competence for teaching, assessment, academic work and educational administration.
Assessment combines short knowledge activities with a practical portfolio. Participants demonstrate that they can understand, evaluate and apply AI within their own professional context. After successful completion of the course, learners will receive a digital certificate. A hard copy certificate may be requested at an additional cost of R150, excluding courier fees.

2. Is this course SACE approved, and does it need to be?
This is an important distinction: SACE endorsement applies to professional-development activities offered for SACE CPTD points. Applied AI Skills for Educators is not presented as a CPTD-points course. It is a structured, assessed and credit-bearing short skills course designed to develop practical workplace competence. Its value is demonstrated through its learning outcomes, credits, assessments and practical application, not through the allocation of SACE points.
3. Is this another basic AI webinar where I only receive information?
No. This is applied learning, not passive attendance. You will learn how to use AI to develop lesson plans, learning resources, presentations, assessments, rubrics, feedback, academic communication and administrative resources. You will also complete knowledge activities and practical tasks that demonstrate what you can actually do.
4. Will these skills make a real difference in my classroom or institution?
